Hurricane Season Is Here: How Mission Grove Prepares to Keep You Safe

Hurricane Season has officially arrived in Florida, and Mission Grove at Stoneybrook, will be ready.

The safety and well-being of our residents, staff, and guests are our top priorities at all times. That’s why our Leadership Team recently met to review and reinforce our comprehensive Disaster Preparedness Plan. Each department shared key updates, and we want to keep you—our residents and families—informed, empowered, and prepared.

Here’s what you need to know about our emergency plan and how you can take simple steps to be ready this season:

Administration: Communication Is Key

  • Our Front Desk Becomes Command Central

During any emergency, the front desk becomes our command center. Our receptionist manages on-site communication and emergency coordination. To keep our phone lines open for critical needs, we kindly ask that families refrain from calling the front desk during emergencies.

  • Stay Connected with Important Updates

You will be kept up to date with the latest available information.

  • Shelter or Evacuate? We’re Ready Either Way

Independent Living residents will need to make determinations on when and where to evacuate based on best available information and state and local recommendations. Residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care neighborhoods will have designated evacuation locations.  Please note: If evacuation is necessary, pets must be picked up by a family member or designated contact. Pets cannot be left in the community or evacuated with residents (service animals excepted).

Nursing: Your Health, Our Priority

To be ready for any storm-related event, we’re asking each resident to:

  1. Have a 3-Day “Go Bag” Packed by May 31

Include clothing, toiletries, denture care items, hearing aid batteries, personal hygiene products, and a towel.

  1. Maintain a 15-Day Medication Supply

If we manage your medications, don’t worry, we will take care of the supply. If you manage your own medications independently, and usually get a 30-day supply, consider asking your physician for a 90-day fill to avoid delays during emergencies.

  1. Request Portable Oxygen Tanks

If you use oxygen, contact your supplier and request at least four portable tanks

  1. Update Your Medical Information

Inform the Nurse’s Station of any new diagnoses, changes in medications, or updates to your advance directives.

Dining: Nourishment and Normalcy

  • Meals Keep Coming—Even During Storms

Our kitchen is powered by a generator, allowing us to keep meals consistent and comforting.

  • Hydration is a Priority

We have bottled water ready to ensure residents stay properly hydrated throughout any emergency.

  • Dining Room is Open

If we shelter in place, residents can visit the Dining Room for meals, coffee, to recharge devices, or to socialize.

Maintenance: Powering Safety

  • Our Generator Keeps Us Going

In case of a power outage, our emergency generator powers the core of the building—including the kitchen, lobby, elevators, and phones.

  • Storm Prep and Response

Before the storm, the team secures outdoor areas. During the storm, staff stay onsite to monitor the building. Afterward, our Maintenance Director and Executive Director assess and address any damage quickly and efficiently.

Resident Engagement: Calm, Comfort, and Connection

  • Activities Continue—No Matter the Weather

Thanks to generator-powered activity areas, our events go on—even if the lights go out! We will continue to offer in-room activities.

We Make the Best of It

Sometimes, we even throw a “hurricane party” to lift spirits and bring a little sunshine indoors.

We’re in This Together

Preparedness brings peace of mind. If you have any questions or need help making your personal plan, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

Let’s stay safe, connected, and prepared—for whatever this season may bring.
